How We Die

Been reading How We Die, Reflections on Life’s Final Chapter by Sherin Nuland. He dissects the physiological changes caused by many of the common reasons for dying, including heart disease, murder and aids. The biological explanations are wonderful, but it’s a bit gory and indulges in excessive war language to describe our relation to disease and dying, as if they are to be fought and conquered. I suppose that is the purpose of most modern science: to cure our ills. Salvation through science.
